In this letter that Richard Hawthorne wrote to his parents, he talks about being in America; And it is not a pretty picture. He is sick, cold, and hungry. His beautiful idea of what America would be has been crushed, just like many of the other early settlers that came over. At one point he talks about the lack of food, as compared to the amount of food back in England
This document is significant because it shows the hopes and expectations of the settlers coming to America and then the crushing blows of what it was actually like. They all had such high expectations of what the new land would be like, and all the amazing opportunistic it offered, but for most, it was a terribly disappointing.

The Mayflower Compact 1620. The Mayflower Compact is a document that shows how the pilgrims were inclined to create a constitutional government. The compact was formed by 41 men who had little in common. These men wanted to establish a form of government that would support the different groups of people on the Mayflower. This later led to the colonists wanting to liberate themselves from the British monarch. Which led to the creating of another well known document called The Declaration of Independence.
